Albert L. “Al” Warfel, age 73, of New Providence passed away Saturday, May 19, 2024 at Lancaster General Hospital. He was married to Leda Fezette Warfel with whom he would have celebrated 20 years of marriage on June 6th. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Albert Warfel and the late Pauline Fitzkee Warfel Rineer. Al was an excavator for Andrews Excavating for 50 years. Some of his favorite hobbies included building long rifles, participating in and watching all shooting sports and restoring old tractors. Al was a member of the NRA, SLCFSA, and the Garand Collectors. Pauline R. Pipkin, 95, formerly of Peach Bottom, entered into rest on Thursday, May 16, 2024, at Abbeyville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born in Palmyra, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Elsie Gingrich. She was married to the late William Pipkin, Jr. for 63 years at the time of his passing in 2012. Pauline was a homemaker and had also worked as the head housekeeper at the Brunswick Hotel in Lancaster for 30 years. She loved spending time with her family. Pauline was of the Christian faith and enjoyed gospel music, gardening and canning fruits and vegetables. Norma Jane (Cartmell) Kuklis, age 85, entered into the presence of God on May 16, 2024 at United Zion Retirement Community Lititz, PA, and Caring Hospice, Lancaster, PA. She was Born November 1, 1938, in Philadelphia, the daughter of Clarence and Edna Cartmell, both deceased. Norma was the wife of the late Ivan J. Kuklis, who died in January 2021. In 1963, she trusted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior. She was a loving, caring, humble spirit, a strong and prayerful woman of faith. Her prayer was to be a witness to others in her life. She had family Bible studies in her home and organized and helped lead women's neighborhood Bible studies. She also hosted numerous missionaries from Calvary Church. She was the prayer warrior of the family, as she wrote many prayer requests in her notebooks. Norma was a beloved member of Calvary Church, Lancaster. Her life was defined by her unwavering commitment to helping others, both in her church and in her family. Norma and Ivan were Sunday school secretaries and helped in the children’s nursery. She poured her heart and soul into everything she did, whether it was baking her famous sticky buns for the Missionary conferences or hosting meals for her family and friends at church. Edwin (Eddie) H. Ranck, age 88, formerly of Christiana, passed away at Landis Homes on Saturday, May 11, 2024. He was the husband of Rosanna (Rosie) Engel Ranck. They would have celebrated 68th years of marriage on May 30. Edwin, born in Lancaster, was the son of Elvin & Alma Herr Ranck. Edwin & Rosanna began their married life working at Prairie View Hospital in Newton, KS. Edwin served as pastor of Andrews Bridge Mennonite Church for 21 years and bishop of Millwood District for 15 years, retiring from ministry in 2001. He was a member of Mellinger Mennonite Church. Edwin worked as an equipment operator for J.D. Eckman in Atglen for 15 years; farmed for 25 years; and then hauled goods for Amish clients. David G. Lapp, age 90, formerly of Paradise passed away at Fairmount Homes on Tuesday, May 14, 2024. He was the husband of the late Vilma D. Stoltzfus Lapp who passed away on May 28, 2015. He was born in Gordonville, son of the late Samuel & Susan Glick Lapp. He was a member of Calvary Monument Bible Church, where in the past he had served on the cemetery committee. He was the owner operator of David G. Lapp Excavating retiring in 1996. He was a member of the Christian Motorcycle Association. He enjoyed riding his Gold Wing motorcycle, touring extensively the United States and Canada totaling over 865,000 miles. He enjoyed spending time at his cabin in Juniata County. Surviving are 2 children: Ronald D. husband of Darlene Eberly Lapp of New Holland, Pamela A. wife of Brian Herr of Quarryville, 7 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 5 siblings: Melvin Lapp of Lititz, Jacob husband of Loretta King Lapp of Kinzers, Edna wife of Ray Lapp of Ephrata, Barbara Kauffman of New Holland, Rhoda wife of Marv Smoker of Intercourse. John Alvin Manges of Oxford, Pennsylvania passed away on May 7th after an extended illness. John was the son of James W. Jr and Donna J. (Melius) Manges of New Enterprise, PA. John married Mary A. Clouse in 1977 and together they shared 46 years of marriage. John is survived by his wife Mary, daughter Rebecca Botha (John) of Oxford; daughter Megan Briggeman (Steven) of York, granddaughters Lauren and Aubrey Botha, Caroline Briggeman, his mother Donna J., brother Rock (Carla) of New Enterprise, and brother Wayne (Lori) of Sorrento, Florida. He was preceded in death by his father, James W. Jr. John will be dearly missed by his wife, family and Basset hound, Ellie May. John joined the Navy in 1974, becoming a Cryptological Technician for more than 13 years. John’s duty stations included Edsel Scottland, Sugar Grove WV, Panama, taught at Corry Station in Pensacola, FL, and aboard the USS John Rodgers. Loretta K. Bueche, of Willow Street, was warmly welcomed into the loving arms of Jesus on the morning of Monday, May 6, 2024, at the age of 68. She was the beloved wife of J. Thomas Bueche, with whom she would have celebrated their 34th anniversary this year. Born in Gordonsville, VA, she was the daughter of the late Laurence T. and Lorraine (Tomasin) Killen. At age five, Loretta’s family moved to Phillipsburg in Central Pennsylvania. After graduating from Philipsburg-Osceola Area High School, Loretta soon embarked on many adventures. She first traveled to Washington, D.C., and worked for the Federal Government’s Voice of America. Next, she traveled to Garrison, NY, to live and counsel at the Walter Hoving Home for Girls. She then traveled to Gaithersburg, MD, and became a church secretary at Silver Spring Christian Community Church. Sensing a call from God, she participated in a church planting in Lancaster, PA, and moved to Lancaster in 1982. Loretta went on to become the church secretary for Lancaster Covenant Church, now Crossway Church of Lancaster, where she met a young man named Tom Bueche. They were married in 1990 and started a family. David Russell Compton, 62, of Oxford passed away on Monday, April 22, 2024 at Christiana Hospital, Newark, DE. He was the husband of the late Theresa A. Melrath Compton with whom he shared 21 years of marriage. Born in Lancaster, PA he was the son of the late Comas and Brenda Wyatt Compton. He retired as a truck driver from Atlas Van Lines, Newark, DE. David was a member of the A.B.A.T.E. of PA. He loved his children, grandchildren, dogs, gardening, repairing autos and helping people in need. He is survived by three sons, David Russell Compton, Jr. (Patricia) of Quakertown, Danny Compton of North Carolina and Sam Cooper (Margie) of Oxford; two daughters, Meghan (Mark) of North Carolina and Stacie Stidoms of Oxford; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jason Compton of Peach Bottom and Jeff Compton of Conowingo, MD; and one sister, Tracy Compton of Oxford. John F. Martin, age 80, of Peach Bottom, passed away at his home on Wednesday, May 8, 2024. He was the husband of Edith Caldwell Martin who passed away on October 18, 1996. Born in Sugar Grove, VA, he was the son of the late Kyle and Dorothy Rich Martin. In the past he had worked at the Peach Bottom Power Plant. John enjoyed hunting, fishing, crabbing, and splitting fire wood. He is survived by 3 children: John F. Jr. husband of Brenda Townsley Martin of Quarryville, Connie D. wife of the late Karl McGuigan of Peach Bottom, James M. husband of Kimberly Eckman Martin of New Providence, 7 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and 4 siblings: Billy Martin of Peach Bottom, Mildred wife of Herb Thomas of Elkton, MD, Shirley Ann Keys of Peach Bottom, Gilda Reynolds of York, and companion Margy Adams Latham of Nottingham. Robert J. "Bob" Willard, age 79 of Quarryville, passed away on Wednesday, May 1, 2024 at home. He was the husband of Joyce E. Weaver Willard. He was born in Lancaster, son of the late Mac and Ethel Fritz Willard. Bob loved working on classic cars, taking his 57 Chevy to car shows, watching Nascar, and watching old westerns especially Gunsmoke. Surviving besides his wife are 3 sons: David Willard of Holtwood, Douglas husband of Tammy Groff Willard of Willow Street, Danny Willard of Quarryville, 14 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, and a sister, Jackie Petrey of Lancaster.
