Samuel S. King, 18 month-old son of Amos L. Jr. and Fannie Stoltzfus King of 528 Union School Road, Oxford, passed away at Nemours Children's Hospital in Delaware on Thursday, July 4, 2024.
He was born in Quarryville and attended the Old Order Amish Church with his family. Theodorus Stephanus Janssen, age 87, of Christiana, passed away at his home on Wednesday, July 3, 2024. He was the husband of Sheena M. Donald Janssen with whom he celebrated 48 years of marriage on November 28th. He was born in Millingen aan de Rijn, Netherlands, son of the late Johannes & Johanna Marie Van Anhold Janssen. He owned and operated Pipe Data View Services of Christiana. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking and most of all he loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. Merle Richard “Dick” Lefever, 90, of Quarryville, entered into rest on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at his home. Born in Kirkwood, he was the son of the late Lester and Esther (Roop) Lefever. He was the loving husband of Doris (Cully) Lefever for 67 years. Dick was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War. He graduated from the carpentry program at Steven Trade School and was a skilled carpenter as well as auto mechanic as well, having operated his own garage on State Street in Quarryville for many years. He enjoyed NASCAR and drag racing and building custom cars, especially with his son Rick. He was also an avid softball player, playing until he was 80 years old. Dick was also a member of Calvary Independent Baptist Church and was known for his generosity and willingness to help friends and family with anything he could. EJ Strawser…born Elva Jean Barr on September 3, 1927, was God’s gift to her family, friends, and all who knew her. She was born to Nelson and Mary Barr, in Quarryville, PA. A godly family, they loved to till the earth, sing together and serve the Lord. She had a brother, Richard, and sister, Miriam Delong. After graduating from Houghton College in 1948, EJ married Ray Strawser who became a United Methodist pastor and then an Army Chaplain. They lived in Germany and traveled the world as a team: Ray the pastor, EJ the pianist, organist, and choir director among other roles. EJ was known for her beautiful voice, singing solos and duets in countless churches and army chapels. She also worked as a librarian in high schools, colleges and army libraries in many locations. Naomi E. King, infant daughter of Amos S. and Barbara F. Esh King of 1481 Tanning Yard Hollow Road, Peach Bottom, passed away at home shortly after birth on Monday, July 1, 2024.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by grandparents Bennie and Rachel Miller King of WV, John and Rachel Fisher Esh of Peach Bottom, great-grandparents John and Katie Stoltzfus Miller of Stumptown, Benuel and the late Rebecca Lapp Esh of Peach Bottom. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jennifer Spring Hough, beloved daughter, sister, and aunt, on June 20, 2024 at age 44 following a long illness.
She was born on October 15, 1979, in Quarryville, PA. After graduating in 1999 from Solanco High School, Jenny had a long tenure as a teacher’s aide at various schools in southern Lancaster County. She treated each of her students as if they were her own children, going out of her way to make them feel special, listening to each one and making custom crafts for them each school year. Jenny made a lasting impact on all her students and often received drawings and notes from them. Strong in her Christian faith, Jenny volunteered at Rawlinsville Christian Camp teaching arts and crafts and helped in her church’s Sunday school classes. Despite her own anxieties in life, she never let internal struggles impact her caring and concern for the needs of others. Nancy Hall Gieniec, 87, of Lancaster PA, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and community leader, passed away peacefully at home on June 26, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, wisdom, and service. She was the cherished wife of Dr. Casimir Gieniec and the devoted mother to her three surviving children: Michael (Vicki), Jeffrey (Melissa), and Jennifer (John Wade). She is also survived by her nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren, who will miss her deeply. Nancy was preceded in death by her two sons, Stephen and Richard and granddaughter, Ellen. Nancy was born in Picture Rocks, Pennsylvania, to the late Guy V. and Mary Catherine Hall. She was preceded in death by one sibling, David Hall. She graduated from Hughesville High School before pursuing higher education at Lycoming College, where she earned a B.A. in English Language. She was active in theater and the Lycoming choir. She furthered her studies with an M.A. in Religion from Lancaster Theological Seminary. |
